English 10B:  Character sketch:  Model of a good character sketch given in class.  Assignment:  Write a character sketch of a sibling, friend or pet.  You can follow the model given in class.  Due on Tuesday.  Monday:  Test on short stories - study literary terms for short stories:  Character, Plot and Point of View.

English 11C:  Class discussed essay "Why We Love Horror Films", then read "Grim Fairy Tales..." on page 137.  Class then wrote a response comparing the ideas in the two essays.  Response handed in at the end of class.

English 12 D & A:  Reading time for Finnie Walsh, then work period for paragraph on question 3 for "Tears, Idle Tears".  Paragraph due on Monday.

English 10 B:  Class worked on worksheet for "Test", p. 133.

English 11C:  Class discussed questions on "For Every N. American Indian..."; finished questions on "With Guitar and Dreams" and discussed them; read "Why We Crave Horror" and began worksheet.  Questions 1-5 due tomorrow.

English 12D:  Presentation from the Art Institute; notes on how to write a contrast paragraph.  Paragraph assigned: question 3, page 107.  Answer one of the questions in a paragraph.  Time given in class to work on paragraph.  Due Monday, Oct. 1st.

English 11C:  Monologue on "Shooting an Elephant" handed back; thesis sentence assignment returned.  Class worked on correcting thesis sentences and writing Introductions for several of the thesis sentences.

English 12 D and A:  Quiz on Esc/Interp Lit., Plot and Character on Friday, Sept 21.  Paragraph on "The Destructors" due tomorrow.  Class read "Tears, Idle Tears" and questions 1, 2, 4 & 6 assigned.  Some class time will be given tomorrow to finish the questions.

English 10B: Class completed a Point of View exercise, a short reading "To the Principal's Office" and then began working on a vocabulary sheet.  Creative writing assignment on "Denton's Daughter" due tomorrow.

English 12A:  "Horses" paragraphs were returned.  Rewrites due tomorrow.  Paragraph on "The Destructors" assigned.  Question 4, page 64.  Choose any 3 from a-f as the three Subtopics for the paragraph.  Disregard the final part of this question.  Paragraph due Thursday, Sept. 20.  More time will be given in class tomorrow to work on this paragraph.

English 10B:  Class completed worksheets on Character Presentation and Writing Style.  Creative composition assigned.  Rewrite a scene from "Denton's Daughter" choosing one of the following:  Kathy's point of view when she sees the photo of Evelyn; Buck's father's point of view when he sees Buck's report card; Mr. Denton's point of view when Buck approaches him about his History mark. 
Paragraph due Thursday, Sept. 20.  More time will be given in class tomorrow to work on this assignment.

English 11C:  Class took notes on the Essay and then worked on writing thesis sentences.

English 12D:  Class completed notes on character.  These notes were reviewed in class.  Paragraph on "The Destructors" assigned.  Question 6 on page 65.  Choose any 3 from a-f as the three subtopics for the paragraph.  Paragraph due Thursday, Sept. 20.  More time will be given in class tomorrow to work on this assignment.

English 12A:  Class discussed "The Destructors".  Questions 1,3,6, and 8 assigned.  To be completed for Monday.

English 10B:  Class completed Idea Diagram and worked on rough copy of paragraph on "Denton's Daughter".  Good word processed copy due on Monday.

English 11C:  Class completed questions on "I Have a Dream".  Then worked on two worksheets on Parallel Construction.

English 12A:  Class discussed questions on "Horses"; took notes on writing a paragraph.  Paragraph assigned and due on Friday.  Eng. 12:  Point out and explain any three references to horses in "Horses of the Night", showing what each reference reveals about either Chris's life or his character.
Comm. 12:  Horses play an important role in the story.  Find three references to horses and explain why each reference is important.

English 10B:  Class read "Denton's Daughter", then worked on a character wheel for either Buck or Kathy.

English 11 C:  Class assigned questions on "Shooting an Elephant" Page 170: Talking it over- 1, 2, 6  Structure and Style B1a.  Page 172 Activities: 2 - 1/2 to 3/4 page word processed, informal writing style.  Due Thursday.

English 11C:  Class worked on paragraph for "Chumley".  This paragraph is due on Monday.  Class then read "Three Days to See" in Searchlights and began working on a timeline for the three days.  More time will be given in class on Monday to finish this activity.

English 12 D:  Class discussed "Horses of the Night".  Questions 1,2,4, 5 & 7 were assigned.  Questions due for Monday.  I will be collecting and marking one of the questions.

English 12 A:  Class read "Horses of the Night", then began working on a worksheet correcting grammatically incorrect sentences.  Worksheet to be completed for Monday.

English 10 B: Class read "Hoods I Have Known".  Last part of the story to be read by Monday.  Bio poem poster due Monday.

English 11C:  Questions on "Chumley" were assigned - 1a,b; 2a,b 3a, 6a.  Class took notes on writing paragraphs and question 4 was assigned to answer in a paragraph.  Paragraph due Monday, Sept 10.  Class will be given some time on Friday to continue working on their outline and rough copy.

English 12 D: Class finished and discussed vocabulary worksheet on "Horses of the Night" and then began reading the story.  Story to be read by tomorrow.

English 11 C:  Class took notes on "Essays".  Read "The Life and Death of Chumley" in Searchlights.  Assignment:  What is the thesis of this essay and is the thesis implicit or explicit?  Answer question 1a on page 27.

English 12 D:  notes on Escape and Interpretive Literature in Story and Structure, pages 3-8.  Review of these notes.   Vocabulary worksheet on "Horses of the Night".
