Monday, October 29

English 12D:  Class reviewed notes on Symbolism and Irony, discussed the short story "The Lottery".  Questions 1,3,4,5,6 PLUS point out the symbolism in this story.  Questions to be completed for tomorrow.

English 12A:  As for English 12D.

English 10B: Last work period for power point presentations.  Class begins oral presentations on Wed.

English 11C:  Last set of questions for The Martian Chronicles - finish for homework.

Fright Friday, Oct. 26

English 11C:  Class read and then watched a dramatization of "The Martian.  No homework for this weekend.

English 12D:  Notes on Symbol and Irony on page 196 of Story and Structure.  Read "The Lottery" - a handout.

English 10 B:  Researching and working on power point presentation.  Paragraph on "The Cage" due on Monday.  Hand in the Idea Diagram and the rough copy with the good copy.

English 11C:  Class watched Usher II and worked on questions for "The Martian Chronicles.

Wednesday, Oct. 24

English 12A:  Class discussed "The Rocking Horse Winner".  Questions 3, 5, 6 and 9 assigned and to be handed in.  Finnie Walsh essay due on Friday.

English 10B:  Library time for power point presentation.

English 11C:  Questions on "The Martian Chronicles".  Research essay due on Friday.

Monday, October 22

English 11C:  Class watched a video on "The Martian Chronicles", then began writing a paragraph contrasting the bleakness of "And the Moon Still Be as Bright" with "The Settlers" and "The Green Morning".  Class will be given time in class to finish this paragraph.  Research Essay due on Friday, October 26.  Students must successfully complete this assignment to receive credit for English 11.

English 12D:  Class attended a presentation on "Me to We", then worked on their essay.  Time is booked for Thursday to word process essay.  Essay due on Friday, Oct. 26.

English 12A:  Class worked on "Finnie Walsh" essay.  Time is booked for Thursday to word process essay.  Essay due on Friday, Oct. 26.

English 10B:  Class worked on paragraph for "The Cage" novel study.  Students should have the Idea Diagram finished by Thursday, Oct. 25.  This paragraph must be successfully completed to receive credit for English 10.  

Marks for all classes were emailed out over the past weekend.  If you did not receive an email, please email me at the school, so I can send out the marks.

Thursday, October 18

English 10B:  Class chose research topics; then had a lesson on internet searching and power point presentations.  No homework this weekend.

Wednesday, October 17

English 12 A:  Class discussed questions for "The Drunkard"; then took notes on writing an expository literary essay;  topics for the essay on "Finnie Walsh" were handed out.  Essay will be due on Friday, Oct. 26.

English 10 B:  Class worked on identifying subordinate clauses; novel study for "The Cage" handed out.  Class began work on the paragraph.
Note:  The novel study for "The Cage" meets several of the essential learning outcomes for the course and must be successfully completed in order to receive credit for English 10.

English 11C:  Class continued watching a dramatization of part of "The Martian Chronicles"; reading time for the novel.  Read to page 73.
Research essay good copy due on Friday, Oct. 26.  Be sure to include a bibliography with the essay.  Credit for the course cannot be given until the research essay is completed.

Tuesday, October 16

English 12D:  Class completed questions on Third Period/Overtime for "Finnie Walsh"; read "The Drunkard".  Questions 1,2,4 & 8 to be completed for tomorrow.  Students who missed the in class paragraph on "Just Lather" should make arrangements to write this paragraph.

English 12A:  As for English 12D.

English 10B: Class worked on Compound Sentences and subordinate clauses.

English 11C:  Class discussed the question on the novel to page 32.  Read "The Third Expedition" and began viewing a dramatization of this chapter of "The Martian Chronicles".
Rough copies of the research essays were handed back.  Due date for good copies is Friday, Oct. 26.  This assignment must be successfully completed as it meets several of the essential learning outcomes for the course.

Monday, October 15

English 11C:  Finish the worksheet on "Martian Chronicles".  Questions and sketch due tomorrow.

English 12D:  In class paragraph on "Just Lather" written; time to finish "Finnie Walsh" questions in class tomorrow.

English 10B:  Quiz on Chapters 24-32; notes on main clauses, simple and compound sentences. Worksheet will be corrected tomorrow in class.

English 10B:  Class worked on vocabulary; discussed questions on The Cage, chapters 10-23; and completed the Character Traits worksheet.  Homework:  finish reading "The Cage" for Monday. 

English 11C:  Class wrote the rough copy of research essays.  Homework:  read to page 32 in "The Martian Chronicles".

English 12D:  Class discussed questions on "Just Lather"; then read and took notes on Emotion and Humour; read short story "The Drunkard".  Homework:  finish reading "Finnie Walsh".  Inclass paragraph on the theme of "Just Lather" on Monday.

Thursday, Oct. 11

English 12A:  Class finished reading "Just Lather" and then began working on the questions for the story.  Reminder that "Finnie Walsh" must be finished by Monday, Oct. 15.

English 10B:  Class finished sketch from yesterday; worksheet on Chapters 10-23 on "The Cage".  Worksheet questions to be completed for tomorrow.

English 11C:  Class worked on completing an essay organizer for the research essay; then reading time for the novel.  Rough copy of the research essay to be written tomorrow in class.  Students who are absent will write the rough copy on Monday at lunch. This assignment must be successfully completed to get credit for English/Comm. 11 as it meets several of the essential learning outcomes for the course.

English 10B:  Class discussed Chapter 1-8 questions; assignment:  sketch a scene from the novel.  Include three quotes about the scene from the novel.

Tuesday, October 9

English 11C:  Class given time to complete work on essays assigned earlier; questions discussed on first three essays.  Begin work on outline for research essay.  Rough copy of research essay will be written in class on Friday, Oct. 14th.  Students who miss this class must write the rough copy on Monday at lunch.  
This assignment must be completed to meet several of the essential learning outcomes for the course.
