English 11C:  Class finished reading the play "Macbeth", then watched the video.

English 12D:  Class worked on preparing for the in class essay that will be written on Tuesday.  Topic:  Who experienced more tragedy in his life, Chris in "Horses of the Night" (Story and Structure) or Hamlet?  Set up the essay by categories (remember, Tears, Idle Tears paragraph).  Include three quotes, one for each body paragraph.  Give act and scene if you are quoting from Hamlet.  You may bring in any notes, the play, etc. that you need to write the essay.

English 10B:  Class worked on title page and sketch for independent novel study.

English 11C:  Class read  to end of Act 4, scene 2, then answered questions on a worksheet.

Friday, November 23

English 10:  Class worked on Planning 10 essay, then read in their novels.  Planning 10 Essay due on Monday, Nov. 26.  This essay must be successfully completed in order to receive credit for English 10 as it meets several of the essential learning outcomes for the course.

English 11C:  Class worked on a letter describing the banquet scene in Macbeth.  Marks will be given for authentic presentation of this letter.  In other words not a lined sheet of paper and not word processed in Times New Roman.  Use your imagination.  CSI Investigation assignment due today.

English 12D: Class read to the end of Act 4, scene 5, then watched a scene of mad Ophelia on the dvd.  Paragraph assigned:  Contrast the madness of Ophelia with the madness of Hamlet.  Due on Tuesday, Nov. 27.  Obituary of Polonius due on Monday, Nov. 26.

English 12A:  Class worked on Polonius obituary, then read to p. 101 in Hamlet.

English 10B:  Class worked on Planning 10 essay, then read in novel.

English 11C:  Class watched video of Macbeth and completed worksheet on the banquet scene.

Tuesday, November 20

English 11C:  Class read to page 45 in Macbeth, then answered questions on the board.  Cinquain poem assigned.  Create a cinquain poem about either Macbeth or Lady Macbeth's actions or character in the play to page 45.  Good copy - sketch an item from the play to accompany the poem.  Poem due Wednesday.  CSI murder investigation assignment due on Friday.

English 12D: Class read to the end of Act 3 in Hamlet, then viewed the video.

English 12A:  As above.

English 10B:  Class worked on their Planning 10 essay, then began reading second novel.  Essay will be due on Monday, November 26.

Monday, November 19

English 10B:  Class was assigned the essay of the first essay to be completed in this course and was given time to complete an outline for the essay.  Essay Topic:  Using specific examples from the course, write a 500 word essay on whether Planning 10 is a user friendly online course.

English 11C:  Computer time was given to the class to work on CSI murder investigation for Macbeth.  This is the second work period and no further class time will be given.  Assignment is due on Friday, November 23.


English 12D:  Class worked on "Decisions, Decisions" worksheet, then read Act 3, scene 2.  Worksheet due on Wednesday, November 21.


English 12A:  As above.

Friday, November 16

English 12A:  Class read to the end of scene 1 in Act 2 of Hamlet.   Movie of Hamlet was watched.  Worksheet started -"Decisions, Decisions".  Time will be given in class to work on this worksheet on Monday.

English 10B:  Class worked on writing  Introduction and Conclusion paragraphs for essays.

English 11C:  Class watched Duncan's death scene in the movie Macbeth.  Then class began working on a CSI crime scene investigation assignment of the murder.  Assignment will be due on Friday, November 23.  More class time will be given on Monday for this assignment.

English 12D:  See English 12 A.

Thursday, November 15

English 12D:  Class read Hamlet's "To be or not to be" soliloquay.  Most of class attended the post secondary fair.

English 12A:  As for English 12 D.

English 10B:  Class worked on Thesis Sentence exercise.  Either "A Day in the Life" or sentence exercise is due tomorrow.

English 11C:  Pep rally - no class.

Wednesday, November 14

English 11C:  Class marked questions on Act 1, then read to the end of Act 2, scene 2.  There were four questions on the board for students to answer.  The Martian Chronicle essays were handed back.

English 12D:  Class read Hamlet to end of Act 2.  Question 1 on scene 2, p. 59 assigned.

English 12A:  Class read Hamlet to beginning of the soliloquay at the end of Act 2.

English 10B:  Class took notes on writing an expository essay.

Monday, November 13

English 10B:  Class worked on sentence worksheet.  Worksheet due on Thursday.  A Day in the Life due on Friday.

English 11C:  Class watched the rest of Act 1 of Macbeth and answered 8 questions on this Act.  Beginning of Act 2, scene 1 also read.  Questions due tomorrow. 

English 12D:  Class read Act 2, scene 1 of Hamlet; worked on a short exercise on a modern mad Hamlet, then continued reading scene 2.  Miss Brill questions handed back.  Those students who did not complete this assignment must see me for an alternate story to analyze.

English 12A:  Memory Book.  Same as above for Miss Brill.

Friday, November 9

English 12A:  Class read Act 2, scene 1 of Hamlet.  Assignment:  Prepare director's notes for the costume department and the actor:  How would a modern Hamlet be dressed to convince the audience he is crazy?  How would a modern Hamlet behave?  Also decide what actor would play the part.
Due to a mix-up, this class will have Memory book time on Tuesday rather than today.

English 10B:  Remembrance Day assembly.  Time for write up of A Day in the Life of a Sa-Hali Student.

English 11C:  Class discussed questions on scenes 2 &3.

English 12D:  Class worked on the Memory Book assignment.


Memory Book Due Date:  Friday, January 11, 2013.  No lates!!!  If the assignment is handed in late, I will not be able to mark it as I will be preparing 3 classes for government final exams.

Thursday, November 8

English 12D:  Class watched video of Hamlet, Act 1.  Assigned questions on p. 37:  Scene 4 - question 1; Scene 5 - question 1.  Omit the writing of the scene.  As well, prepare an answer for this question:  Make a prediction of what Hamlet will do next in the play.

Marks for English 12, Comm. 12, English 11 and Comm. 11 were emailed out yesterday evening.
Marks for English 10 will be emailed tonight.

English 12A:  As for English 12D.

English 10B:  Class worked on a Sentence worksheet.  This is an important assignment and class time will be given next week to continue working on it.

English 11C:  Class read Act 1, scenes 1-3 and then answered questions on these scenes.  Director's notes for Act 1, scene 1 due on Tuesday.

Wednesday, November 7

English 11C:  Essays due today.  Class worked on Macbeth assignment for Act 1, scene 1.  Assignment due on Tuesday, Nov. 13.

English 12A:  Class read and discussed the rest of Act 1 of Hamlet.

English 10 B:  Class watched the last of Swing Kids and completed a worksheet about the movie.

English 11C:  Class read Act 1, scene 1 of Macbeth, then began the Director's Notes assignment.  Class time will be given tomorrow to work on this assignment.  Essay on "The Martian Chronicles" due tomorrow.

English 12D:  Class read Act 1, scenes 1 and 2 of Hamlet.  Then answered on page 37, Act 1, scene 1: question 1 and Act 1, scene 2: question 2.

English 12A:  Introduction to Shakespeare and Hamlet.  Miss Brill questions were due today.

English 10B:  The last of the class oral presentations; movie "Swing Kids" shown.

English 11C:  Research essays handed back.  In computer lab to work on "The Martian Chronicles" essay; essay due on Wednesday, Nov. 7.

Friday, Nov. 2

English 12D:  Class wrote quiz on literary terms.  Students who missed the quiz must write it on Monday at lunch.  Miss Brill questions due on Monday.

English 10B:  Oral presentations.  Worksheet on punctuating Complex Sentences and Sentence Identification.  Those students who were absent today and have not given their presentations must do so on Monday.  Students who have not handed in the paragraph on "The Cage" or "The Old Brown Suitcase" by the beginning of Monday's class will not be watching the movie being shown in class. Instead they will be finishing their paragraph in the library.
